I think we’ve all been there. Hanging around the house in the summertime and trying to figure out new things to do. You google something along the lines of “things to do near me”, but everything that pops up is either something you’ve already tried or things that don’t seem very appealing.
If you’re like me, you probably don’t like spending all of your free time trying to figure out what you’re going to do. So I’ve put together a list of 10 family-friendly (and hopefully new) activities for you to try this summer.
1. Sunflower Festival
Wea Creek Orchard is hosting their 3rd annual Sunflower Festival this year and I am beyond excited to go! It’s a day filled with food and activities for the whole family. They have local vendors, food, crafts and even a movie playing once it gets dark enough. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to go last year, so I will make sure that I’ll be able to go to this one! You can find more details about the event on their Facebook page.
2. Go See an Aviator’s Game at Loeb Stadium
I have to admit that I am not the world’s biggest fan of baseball. I actually hardly know anything about the sport at all. Despite all of that, I was convinced into going to the newly built Loeb Stadium for a date night recently and I was very impressed! I wasn’t sure what to expect because I had grown up with the former stadium that wasn’t much to look at, but the new stadium is incredibly nice. There’s a team gift shop, concession stands, beer garden and even cup holders to hold your drinks once you finally find your way back to your seat. You don’t have to like or know anything about baseball to enjoy a night watching a game at Loeb Stadium. I would highly recommend taking a trip there if you haven’t already.
3. Prophetstown State Park
I feel like this is one of the most underrated spots in Lafayette. This park has just about everything you could ask for! They have multiple playgrounds, bike trails, hiking trails, a waterpark, and even a farm you can go to visit some animals. There’s so much to do in this park and I feel like everyone should take advantage of it this summer! It’s perfect for taking your family because there’s so many things to do and so much space to do it. Personally, my family likes to take our bikes out there and ride the trails together when it’s not quite warm enough to visit their waterpark. If you’re looking for a great place to spend some time outdoors, Prophetstown State Park is it.
4. Flourish Studio & Classroom
If you’re looking for something fun to try with your girlfriends or maybe just want your child’s birthday to be extra special this year, I would highly suggest looking into Flourish Studio and Classroom. They have such a fun way of tapping into everyone’s creative side no matter how crafty you think you are. They also offer subscription boxes that deliver a fun new craft/activity for your kids to try every month.
5. Columbian Park
Columbian Park is probably the park that I’ve spent the most time growing up. Nowadays it doesn’t look anything like the park I grew up with because they’ve been constantly improving it over the years. Aside from their shelters and large playground, they also have a zoo you can go visit with all sorts of animals. As if that’s not enough to keep your family occupied, you can also visit Tropicanoe Cove and spend the rest of the day relaxing in the lazy river. It’s a great place to spend a warm summer day because you won’t run out of things to do. You can always take a peek at their website to see if it’s something you and your family would be interested in.
I know we’re getting our bucketlist out to you a little late in the summer, but I hope you’ll still have a chance to experience some of the wonderful things Lafayette has to offer you and your family! Post some of your favorite summertime activities in Lafayette and tag us at @allthethingslafayette so we can see what your favorite summer activities are!
Enjoy the rest of your summer,
Ashley
